SALEM 9/12 DIGEST

Oregon State Fair Booth

9/12 Project Salem

September 2009 was an extremely busy time for the 9/12 Project Salem, with considerable effort and resources devoted to group business, the September 12 Marches on both Salem and DC, and (of course), the Oregon State Fair.

I want to take a few moments to thank all who worked so hard to make the first 9/12 Project Salem booth at the fair an unqualified success. By the efforts of about 60 volunteers working a total of 136 hours, we were able to spread our message of personal responsibility, constitutional government, and liberty to thousands of our fellow Oregonians. We handed out almost 5,000 informational bookmarks, and have already started to receive responses from folks who first learned of our group and website from the bookmarks. Many of the volunteers were able to discuss the issues in detail with folks who might otherwise never have heard of the 9/12 Project. Many volunteers worked diligently to collect signatures for Ballot Measures 301, 302, 303, and 304. Additionally, we sold enough merchandise to more than cover the cost of the booth. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for a job well done.

I want to specifically thank the following people:

Kevin Crawford took part of a Saturday to train our intrepid crew of volunteers how to use our talents in the booth to get our message out.

Shift Captains: Len Hays, Mary House, Martha Savage, Brad Wilson, Phyllis Eavenson, and Dave Lickiss.

Without this dedicated group, I could not have organized the group as a whole, and kept everything on track. All of the Shift Captains also worked a number of shifts.

Booth Volunteers: Karla Anderson, Mark Anderson, Joyce Axelson, Jamie Babcock, Sandy Beder-Miller, Kathy Bergevin, Chuck Briggs, Kari Carter, Lyle Carter, Norm Coffelt, Doug Denson, Earl Down, Larry Eavenson, Pam Ferro, George Fulton, Jeri George, Jim George, Gary Hafner, Lee Hafner, Sam Hall, Jim Harless, Karen Harless, Barb Harris, Kevin Hawes, Phil Hood, Sharon Hood, John House, Marie Innes, Ken Kite, Louis, Kohphanck, Thom Koshinsky, Braeda Libby, Pete Matthey, Jim McClure, Martha Miller, Carroll Nigg, Nancy Nigg, Brad Oaks, Patti Overstreet, Steve Overstreet, Nelson Peterson, Cindy Poore, Jim Poore, Lisa Riesland, Gerry Roe, Elaine Selberg, Glenn Shoultz, Fritz Suehs, Jan Suehs, and Mike Woods

Thank you all for your support. I am so proud of all your hard work and dedication.

A special note of thanks is due to Dama Curtwright, who graciously allowed us to use her facility for training, and also supplied a large amount of candy for the booth.

Finally, I want to close with a special thanks to Sandy Beder-Miller, Bob and Dori Goodwin, and Jan and Fritz Suehs. Sandy did many of the openings for the booth, making sure the booth was spruced up and ready to go for the first shift. Bob worked diligently every day in a wide variety of tasks ranging from setting up, daily openings, and nightly closings, and filling in when some folks had to be out of town. Dori very generously let us use her company storage room, located near the fair, to store our materials needed for running the booth. Fritz and Jan, in addition to working many shifts, also helped with the booth take-down late Labor Day evening, when we our gas tanks were all running on empty.

The Oregon State Fair was a very successful event for the 9/12 Project Salem, and thanks again to all that made it possible.
